Yesterday was our "midway presentation", where we present our directions after wrapping up the heavier part of the research. To me it was also a point where I could feed my process with some contextual data, since I haven't been around coworking spaces during my first phase of this work. The research analysis can be summarised on the points below and I've create some concepts to gather feedback.
After spending a week in Bali (working, even if some people don't believe in me) I headed to Helsinki, looking forward to attend the Interaction16 conference and place my prototypes on HUB13. And these prototypes failed. But not any failure, "flat face on the floor" type of failure. It was amazing.
During this thesis project I decided to explore different approaches and tools to research. But at some point you really need to meet people face-to-face to get inspired (and people inspire me much more than raw data). So to address my research loneliness I travelled a lot. First to a Coworking UNconference called CUASIA 2016 (it reads see-you-asia) in an attempt to understand coworking spaces from the members and owners themselves. Also to host an ideation workshop that would help me to do all the above.
Finally the time to decide on the topic I will be working for the next 18 weeks. Scary. Exciting. I'm still not sure about my decision but after doodling and talking to so many people about their thoughts on my topic choices, it feels like this one should be done no matter what. I can't think of a better place to investigate and build my thoughts around this topic than this school. So my topic is...
From the sketch to materialising, there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears involved. MS attacks, burning out and still awake after 48 hours I got to present the results. But first, my proud result. More details about the final version of this project can be found at The Home Network page.
Wrapping up the current concept presented through the short story on the previous post. Everything started by considering the current idea of Home as a place inhabited by your family. In the future scenario where there is no house-sharing due to social and economical changes, the concept of Family changed to a Network of care between you and a group composed by family, friends and neighbours (whoever is meaningful to your life).
After going back and forth to the drawing board, I've finally have something to proudly narrow down. Reviewing the previous concepts, I wrote a short story that should be transformed into a script and finally my video. The main characters are still de same, although now Loyal is called Amanda and Eager is called Ana. Some of the artefacts will be better described further on the road.
Building up on last reflections about Future Families, I've decided to better frame my concept as a future nostalgia. After all is a whole generation dealing with what remained of these family force fields. We were asked to create storylines In order to better organise these thoughts about the new world we are building. Below I have my deliverable and initial thoughts.
